Comedy, stand up and sketch shows give London audiences a taste of Edinburgh

July 22, 2013, 11:04 am -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- London's alternative to the Edinburgh festival, The Camden Fringe, is back for an 8th year this summer from 29th July to 25th August 2013 and for those who want to visit the capital to see some strange and hilarious shows, now is a good time to book tickets and reserve a London hotel to make sure you don't miss out. With over 180 different productions performed at 17 venues across the north London borough of Camden, it's a must-see festival for fans of fringe.

Highlights of the 2013 programme include ‘...and this is my friend Mr Laurel' written by award winning playwright Gail Louw with actor Jeffrey Holland is who best known for his many sitcom appearances as Spike in “Hi-de-Hi” and who also played James in “You Rang, M'Lord?”. The one-man show presented by The Finishing Touch Co. takes place at Upstairs at the Gatehouse in Highgate Village from Wednesday 21st to Sunday 25th August 2013.

‘Conference', a sketch show set in a conference for women, is another highlight, presented by Leisa Rea & Cicely Giddings, with help from Frog Stone, Jen Brister and Margaret Cabourn-Smith. Running on 7th and 8th August at 9pm at the Etcetera Theatre where The Camden Fringe first took place in August 2006, in one of London 's best known pub theatres situated above The Oxford Arms on Camden High Street.

For some Hollywood glamour book in to see ‘An Evening With Patti Du Pont' on 15th and 16th at 6pm at the Etcetera Theatre. Anna Emerson, best known for her work with sketch outfit The Boom Jennies, stars in this character comedy piece based on the life of legendary performer Patti Du Pont who draws on her 65 years in show business to keep the audience entertained.

Simon Feilder, who is well known for his double-act 'Life of Si' which he performed at Edinburgh with fellow comedian Sy Thomas, is going solo with ‘All The Things I'm Not' on 24th and 25th August at 6pm at the Etcetera Theatre. You won't see him at the Edinburgh Fringe this year so this Camden Fringe appearance is a chance to see his work-in-progress hour-long show.

All 17 Camden Fringe venues are spread out throughout the borough with participating venues as far apart as Highgate and Covent Garden with a cluster centred around the High Street in Camden. For additional information on all the Camden Fringe shows, venues, reviews and offers visit the Camden Fringe Facebook page and Twitter feed @camdenfringe.
