Zaha Hadid Architectsí first permanent structure in central London
August 27, 2013, 3:07 pm -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The new Serpentine Sackler Gallery, Zaha Hadid's extension to the Serpentine Gallery in London is to open to the public on Saturday 28th September 2013 and there's a wide selection of hotel in London for those who want to be among the first to see the new London gallery and its inaugural exhibition.

The Serpentine Sackler Gallery is the first permanent structure in central London by the architectural practice founded by Pritzker Prize winning architect Zaha Hadid. It restores The Magazine, a Palladian style villa built in 1805 in Kensington Gardens to store arms, transforming it into an exciting new 900 metre square gallery with a white undulating roof, a striking modern extension to the historic structure.

The new Serpentine Sackler Gallery, named after Dr Mortimer and Theresa Sackler, whose Foundation has made the project possible, will be open daily, showing a mix of contemporary art, architecture, dance, design, fashion, film, literature, music, performance and technology. Like the original Serpentine Gallery, which is a short walk from the Serpentine Sackler Gallery in Kensington Gardens, the new gallery is free to visit, and will be a significant addition to London's contemporary art scene.

Zaha Hadid, who was recently the subject of a recent BBC One ĎImagine' programme by Alan Yentob, was the first architect commissioned for the 2010 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion which in 2013 has been designed by Sou Fujimoto and remains open until 20th October 2013, the final day of the Frieze London art fair which runs from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th October 2013.

The Serpentine Sackler Gallery opens with the first UK exhibition by the young Argentinian artist AdriŠn Villar Rojas, who is gaining international renown for his dramatic, large-scale sculptural works. At the same time, the Serpentine Gallery will be showing a major retrospective of the work by Italian sculptor Marisa Merz, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 Venice Biennale.

The Serpentine galleries will host an expanded programme of eight exhibitions which follow the seasons with different shows in each gallery four times a year. The seasonal theme carries through to the wider programme with the summer pavilion commission signalling the start of London 's summer and the multi-disciplinary Marathon , a fixture of Frieze week in the autumn.
