November 29, 2013, 11:56 am -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Winter has arrived in London with the message of Christmas, the ‘big daddy' of all festivals, carnivals and events. Though it's just the opening of November and the arrival of Santa Clause is over 50 days away, London and its people are getting geared up to celebrate the grand occasion with fervor, as usual. Christmas celebration in London is a gala event for its citizens and for tourists who throng the British capital in thousands during winter; it is an indescribable treat for the eyes and an experience that they cherish for the rest of their lives.

Endless varieties of events at roads, cultural venues and parks turn the city colorful and people are found in their best mood. Streets illuminated with chains of Christmas lights, fairs, shows, performances and crowded malls and shops together create an amazing charm. People who haven't witnessed Christmas celebrations in London should give it a try this year since the festive fever has just started spreading its wings. The celebrations are on ‘kicking off' stage right now with some festivals, among which an important one is the Winter Festival at Southbank Centre. Scheduled for opening on November 9, the Southbank Centre Winter Festival is an interesting event where the entire area turns into a wonderland. Major event venues in the area like Hayward Gallery and Royal Festival Hall host varieties of events to add flavor to the celebrations.

Another star attraction of the Christmas celebrations would be the Christmas Market, which like every year, would bring with it endless scopes for buying Christmas gifts for family members, friends and neighbors. For visitors, the Christmas Market would be a golden opportunity to get back home with some great Christmas souvenirs for loved ones. The German-style market, which is scheduled to open its door for visitors on November 16, would feature over 80 wooden chalets which would bear the look of chalet. People would get a grand scope of taking home varieties of exquisite hand-crafted wooden gifts. Gastronomists need not to feel disappointed since there would be plenty of stalls selling seasonal food and drink at the market. Traditional German food Bratwurst would be available largely at the event along with mulled wine, mince pies and varieties of other items. The market would remain open till December 24 and visitors can expect huge rush, especially in the weekends.

To add to the Christmas charm, the festival would include different types of performances including reading of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. The event, which would entertain the crowd in the Queen Elizabeth Hall on December 15, would feature performance by actor Griff Rhys Jones as Charles Dickens. Watching the Welsh Olivier Award winning actor live would be a good experience for the spectators. The show has been specially planned this year to celebrate the 170 th anniversary of publication of A Christmas Carol and would surely add to the Christmas spirit.

To get glimpses of these colorful pieces of the Southbank Centre Christmas celebrations, visitors should try to find accommodation at hotels that are either within its vicinity or provide easy access to the area. Situated by the Barbican, The Montcalm at The Brewery London City hotel would be an ideal choice for people willing to be part of the colorful Christmas celebrations.
