Released on: September 10, 2014, 6:03 am (EDT)
Talks and performances will take place off Oxford Street to coincide with Frieze art fair
LONDON, September 10, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- London's most prestigious contemporary arts space, the ICA, will be taking over a new venue – The Old Selfridges Hotel – this October for a week-long free programme of live events to coincide with Frieze London, the world class arts fair. The Old Selfridges Hotel is located on Oxford Street, right in the centre of London's bustling West End and close to many of the world's greatest restaurants, shops and galleries as well as famous landmarks and exciting districts such as Soho and Marylebone. For more on the area, see LondonTown.com.
The ICA's October event will run from 14th-18th October and feature contributions from Isabel Lewis, Korakrit Arunanondchai, NTS Radio, Siobhan Davies Dance and Rhizome. The programme will encompass performance, music, art, dance and discussion, with different events taking place each day. Launching the programme on Tuesday and Wednesday, Brooklyn-based dance artist and curator Isabel Lewis, will host a series of ‘occasions' in partnership with Frieze Projects and Liverpool Biennial, which conjure the ancient Greek symposium where philosophising, drinking and the erotic were inseparable. On Thursday evening, New York-based artist Korakrit Arunanondchai, who will also be participating in the ICA exhibition ‘Beware Wet Paint' (24 September – 16 November 2014) will present an evening performance. On Friday night, the focus will be music with a live event presented in collaboration with ICA's Associate Artists, NTS Radio. Saturday will see Siobhan Davies Dance present the live movement installation Table of Contents.
From Wednesday, a series of panel discussions in the form of a ‘summit', presented in collaboration with Rhizome, will focus on contemporary art and the politics of digital circulation, questioning how power and value accrue around art on the internet and how artists work within and against these conditions. The programme will occupy the vast first floor of The Old Selfridges Hotel, a cavernous industrial raw space, off Oxford Street and directly above the Selfridges Food Hall. The project entrance is situated next to Selfridges Food Hall. For more information about this and other events hosted by the ICA, see LondonTown.com.
