This week AnaSpec, one of the world’s largest providers of custom and catalog peptides, introduced thirty-eight (38) new catalog peptides.

Ubiquitin (65-76); (Ub2)- Cat# 62586
This peptide is amino acids 65 to 76 fragment of ubiquitin known as Ub2. It was shown to have activity against fungal and bacterial pathogens. Ub2 is capable of mediating significant antibacterial activity against both M. smegmatis and M. tuberculosis. Ubiquitin has been identified as a constituent of several extracts that have antibacterial activity; including medium conditioned of insect cells; the mucosal layers of colon and cervix; and the secretory granules of chromaffin cells. The main function of ubiquitin is labeling proteins for proteasomal degradation.

OV-3; sheep- Cat# 61312
This is the ovispirin peptide OV-3; the truncated derivative of SMAP29 protein. The activity of this truncated synthetic peptide against Pseudomonas aeruginosa is comparable to that of the parent compound; SMAP29 which actively inhibits mucoid and nonmucoid bacterial strains.

Serorphin; BSA (399-404)- Cat# 62652
This is amino acids 399 to 404 fragment of bovine serum albumin (BSA). It shows opioid activity.

Pyrrhocoricin- Cat# 62601
This proline-rich cationic antibacterial peptide pyrrhocoricin kills responsive bacteria by binding to the 70 kDa heat shock protein DnaK and inhibiting protein folding.

Bik BH3 (50-70)- Cat# 62490
This is amino acids 50 to 70 fragment of Bcl-2-interacting killer (Bik) protein. Bik is a pro-apoptotic member of the Bcl-2 family and is the founding member of a subfamily of pro-apoptotic proteins known as 'BH3-alone' proteins. Ectopic expression of Bik induces apoptosis in variety of mammalian cells.

Bid BH3 (79-99)- Cat# 62488
This is amino acids 79 to 99 fragment of Bid protein. It contains the core homology region; LAQVGDSM. Bid BH3 is a pro-apoptotic protein effector of mitochondrial mediated apoptosis.

Amphoterin (150–183)- Cat# 61323
This is amino acids 150 to 183 fragment of the amphoterin. Amphoterin is a general regulator of cell migration and invasiveness of tumor cells through binding to receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE). It was shown that amphoterin C-terminal motif is responsible for RAGE binding.

BRCAA1 (610-619)- Cat# 62536
This is amino acids 610 to 619 fragment of the breast cancer associated antigen 1(BRCAA1). BRCAA1 protein is composed of 1;214 amino acids and shares 37% amino acid identity and an identical antigen epitope with Rb binding protein 1. This fragment of the BRCAA1 is the shortest effective peptide. Its expression is associated with prognosis of breast cancer.

[Gln340]-Maspin; Reactive Site Loop (RSL); (330-345)- Cat# 62575
This is amino acids 330 to 345 fragment of maspin mutant peptide; the maspin reactive site loop (RSL) with substitution of Arg340 to Gln340. This mutant peptide retains the full maspin activity. Maspin is a serpin that inhibits tumor invasion and induces cell adhesion to extracellular matrix molecules. The maspin reactive site loop (RSL); or its Gln340 mutant; alone induces cell-matrix adhesion of mammary carcinoma cells and corneal stromal cells and inhibits invasion of carcinoma cells.

[-4]pPSA- Cat# 61273
This [-4]pPSA peptide is the truncated form of the prostate-specific antigen precursor (pPSA). The peptide contains an ILSR leader peptide motif on the N-terminal. Precursor [?4]pPSA isoform is converted to mature PSA by human kallikrein.

p53 (17-26); FITC labeled- Cat# 62386
This is amino acids 17 to 26 fragment of p53; fluorescent labeled through an LC spacer. This peptide is the Mdm-2 binding domain of p53 known also as p53N. This sequence contains all of the residues that come into contact with the binding domain of Mdm-2. The tumor suppressor protein p53 is important in maintaining genome stability and in preventing cancer development; FITC (Abs/Em=493 nm/517 nm)..

MAGE-3 (161-169)- Cat# 61354
This is a peptide encoded by MAGE-3. It is known to be presented by HLA-A*0101. Antigens encoded by MAGE genes are of particular interest for cancer immunotherapy because of their strict tumoral specificity and because they are shared by many tumors.

S1P1- Cat# 62501
Sphingosine1-phosphate (S1P) is a bioactive lysolipid with pleiotropic functions mediated through a family of G protein coupled receptors; S1P1; 2; 3; 4; 5. Expression of this S1P1 peptide is restricted to the vascular endothelium. S1P1 stimulates chemotaxis and is implicated in lymphocyte recirculation.

Rabies Virus Matrix Protein Fragment (RV-MAT)- Cat# 62564
This peptide is a fragment derived from rabies virus matrix protein (RV-MAT). It was used for viral research; or as a control peptide in blood-brain barrier (BBB) drug delivery studies. RV-MAT cannot cross the BBB to enter brain cells.

Cytochrome P450 4A (431-445); rat- Cat# 62588
This peptide is amino acids 431 to 445 fragment of the rat cytochrome P450 4A. Products of cytochrome P450 pathway of arachidonic acid metabolism are increasingly recognized as playing major roles in renal function.

Elastin-Like Octapeptide- Cat# 62508
This peptide consists predominantly of hydrophobic amino acids with the highly repetitive pentameric repeat unit; VPGVG that has been found to be crucial to elastin's functionality. This octapeptide is one of the two domain types that form tropoelastin. It has been used as a minimalistic elastin-like model system.

Leptin (116-130); mouse- Cat# 62559
This is amino acids 116 to 130 fragment of mouse leptin. Leptin is a 167-amino acid plasma protein that is synthesized in adipose tissue and acts as a blood-borne hormone responsible for weight maintenance. Food intake by mice receiving this leptin fragment (116–130) was reduced by 15%.

CLIP (86-100)- Cat# 62569
This is amino acids 86 to 100 fragment of class II-associated invariant chain peptide called CLIP. The major histocompatibility complex class II molecule displays peptide fragments of foreign proteins to trigger a defensive reaction from the immune system. Before insertion of the foreign peptides into the binding groove; a place-holding peptide CLIP is removed. This is accomplished by the molecule DM; which is shown to increase the dissociation rate of a CLIP peptide from class II.

CLIP (88–99)- Cat# 62568
This is amino acids 88 to 99 fragment of class II-associated invariant chain peptide called CLIP. CLIP binds to various HLA-DR alleles using methionine-based binding motifs. This core sequence of 12 amino acids was identified within CLIP; and is required for optimal binding to DR1; DR2; DR3(17) and DR7. All three methionine residues appeared to control CLIP binding to HLA-DR.

LCMV (166-173); GP166- Cat# 62541
This peptide is amino acids 166 to 173 fragment of the lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) glycoprotein (GP); also known as GP166. It is the H-2Db restricted epitope with relatively high CD8+ T-cell response. CD8+ T-cell responses control lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus infection in H-2b mice.

This is amino acids 673 to 679 fragment of lactoferrin; known as lactoferroxin C. This sequence shows antagonist activities for opioid ?-receptors.

Myosin H Chain Fragment; mice- Cat# 62554
This peptide is a fragment of the murine heart muscle specific peptide derived from a-myosin H chain. This peptide was used for induction of autoimmune myocarditis.

Erythropoietin; Human (hEPO) Fragment- Cat# 62562
This synthetic peptide is a fragment of the human erythropoietin (EPO) sequence; a hormone produced by the kidney that promotes the formation of red blood cells in the bone marrow. Recombinant human erythropoietin (RhEPO) was shown to stimulate erythropoiesis; which leads to an increase in red blood cells. Synthetic hEPO peptide was not tested.

OVA (327-333)- Cat# 62577
This peptide is amino acids 327 to 333 fragment of ovalbumin (OVA). This sequence is a core region of ovalbumin peptide critical for binding to I-Ad . It shares sequence homology with other I-Ad binding peptides derived from other antigenic systems. This fragment is the primary TCR contact residue.

This peptide is amino acids 13 to 23 fragment of the insulin B chain. Insulin is an important autoantigen in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes. This sequence represents an important T cell epitope for islet-infiltrating T cells in NOD mice.

This peptide is used for affinity purification. For specific applications proteins may be eluted in Tris; pH 8.2; NaCl; and dithiothreitol containing 100 µM peptide (EYMPTD) with protease inhibitors.

This is amino acids 264 to 276 fragment of the zipper-interacting protein kinase (ZIPK). Thr265 is the phosphorylation site that plays an important role in activation of protein kinase. This is non-phosphorylated form of this peptide.

This is amino acids 309 to 327 fragment of the zipper-interacting protein kinase (ZIPK). ZIPK is a widely expressed serine/threonine kinase implicated in cell death and smooth muscle contractility. Ser311 is found to be the major phosphorylation site in this peptide; with Ser312 as a minor site.

FceRI gamma-chain ITAM-Derived Phosphopeptide; TAMRA labeled- Cat# 61776
This peptide is a high affinity receptor for IgE (FceRI); g-chain. The cytoplasmic domains of the beta and gamma chains contain a sequence termed the immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motif (ITAM). The phosphorylation of two conserved tyrosine residues within the ITAM consensus sequence plays a critical role in receptor-mediated signal transduction. This FCeRI g-chain ITAM-derived phospho peptide is a substrate for PTP1B (protein tyrosine phosphatase 1 B). It is responsible for initiating receptor mediated signal transduction through the Syk and Lyn tyrosine kinases. Aggregation of FceRI on mast cells and basophils initiates a signaling cascade that results in degranulation and the release of mediators of the allergic reaction. This peptide is a glycogen synthase derived peptide obtained from the N terminal of glycogen synthase; a substrate for mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPKAPK2). The peptide is biotinylated at the N-terminus.

This peptide is a fragment amino acids 113 to 122 of the cyclic AMP-responsive DNA-binding protein (CREB) It contains a single phosphorylation consensus site at serine119; a substrate for phosphorylation by PKA. CREB mediates transcriptional activation of genes in response to cAMP signal transduction pathway.

This peptide inhibits binding of one of formyl peptide receptor-like 1 (FPRL1) agonists WKYMVm to its specific receptor. FPRL1 is an important classical chemoattractant receptor that is expressed in phagocytic cells in the peripheral blood and brain. Activation of FPRL1 is closely related to inflammatory responses in the host defense mechanism and neurodegenerative disorders.

Hanatoxin is a protein toxin from spider venom that inhibits the drk1 voltage-gated K+ channel by binding to receptors on the extracellular face of the channel and modifying the energetics of gating. It does not interact with the extracellular surface of the pore domain; but exclusively interacts with the voltage-sensing domains of the channel. The sequence is cross-linked by three disulfide bridges: 2-16; 9-21; and 15-28.

This is amino acids 5 to 20 fragment of 26-residue delta-toxin peptide from Staphylococcus aureus. This fragment does not exhibit hemolytic activity.
