Packington Poultry, the free-range farm has launched an online ordering facility for its Christmas cockerels

Staffordshire, UK, November 25, 2010 -- Now is the time when people everywhere are turning their thoughts to Christmas, and as well as the gifts they are going to buy, people are starting to think about what they are going to eat on the big day.

Packington Poultry (http://www.packingtonpoultry.co.uk/ ) rears free-range chicken and in the run-up to Christmas has launched an online ordering facility for its outstanding Christmas cockerel, allowing customers to order Christmas meat online (http://www.packingtonpoultry.co.uk/cockerelsOrder.htm)

Packington cockerel (http://www.packingtonpoultry.co.uk/ourcockerels.htm) is a tasty alternative to turkey. Renowned for their quality and flavour, these fabulously succulent free-range cockerels can weigh up to seven kilogrammes, feeding up to 15 people. This means you can still get that all-important centrepiece for the Christmas table, creating a ‘wow’ factor for your guests.

Each cockerel comes packed in a beautiful yet sturdy box, featuring simple roasting instructions. In addition, each cockerel comes complete with an inspirational seasonal recipe especially created by Michelin-recognised Chef Paul Gilmore. The recipe uses ingredients and ‘back to basics’ techniques that allow the full flavour of the meat to shine through. Early sales indicate that the Christmas Cockerel is likely to be this year’s ‘big bird’.

The young farmer behind Packington Poultry, Alec Mercer, said: “The Cockerels owe their exceptional flavour to the fact that they are allowed to mature naturally over approximately four months, roaming across traditional pastureland in the Staffordshire countryside. We pride ourselves on raising our birds using the highest standards of animal welfare and without antibiotics.

“The superb texture and flavour is attributed to the muscular development as a result of their free range environment. For people who find the average turkey rather bland or a bit on the dry side, these Cockerels provide a mouth-watering alternative.”

The outstanding qualities of the Packington Poultry range were highlighted by the Hairy Bikers on their Tour of Staffordshire who described them as ‘some of the happiest chickens in the country’. A consistent winner in taste tests, Packington Poultry is stocked by some of the most discerning butchers and food outlets in the country, including Chatsworth Farm Shop and The Ginger Pig.

In addition to the online facility, the Christmas Cockerel is also available direct from the farm, which can be found just outside Barton under Needwood, Staffordshire. Customers are advised to order well in advance to avoid disappointment.
