Aggreko to Power Up and Cool Down Brazil's Biggest Music Festival

Industry: Energy

Aggreko, the world leader in the provision of temporary power and temperature control services, has been awarded the contract to provide power and cooling services to Rock in Rio, one of the largest live music festivals in the world. The contract is with the event's organizers, Dream Factory for the Rock in Rio site, Parque Olímpico Cidade do Rock, or the Olympic Park City of Rock, in Tijuca, south of Rio.

Aggreko will supply 11.5 MW of power - equivalent to the requirement of 11,000 households – which will support broadcasting facilities, sound and lighting. Aggreko will also design and install a 700-tonne cooling package, complete with temporary ducting, for the VIP, catering and press areas.

In 2010, Aggreko supplied power for the foundation stone ceremony which marked the start of work at Parque Olímpico Cidade do Rock, and so, 2011 will mark the second year that Aggreko has worked at the official venue where this year’s edition of Rock in Rio will be held.

“The success of a major event is directly related to the hiring of reliable suppliers,” commented Diogenes Paoli Neto, Managing Director, Aggreko South America. "An event of the caliber of Rock in Rio would be impossible without the guarantee of reliable power. Aggreko is proud to have been asked to contribute our expertise and our generator rental services to ensure that the festival is a success, both in Brazil and for viewers around the world.” he said.

Over the past 26 years, Rock in Rio has been a leading fixture on the international musical calendar. This year it takes place over eleven days, including over two long weekends (23rd - 25th September and 30th September - 2nd October) and it will be broadcast to 80 countries, with more than 600,000 people expected to attend.

Editor's Notes
Aggreko plc is the world leader in the supply of temporary power and temperature control solutions. Aggreko employs over 3,800 people operating from 148 locations. In 2010 we served customers in about 100 countries, and had revenues of approximately £1.2bn (USD$1.9bn or Euros €1.4bn). Aggreko plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange (AGK.L), is a member of the FTSE-100 index, and is headquartered in Scotland. For more information, please visit the company website at www.aggreko.com.

Aggreko provides power and temperature control solutions to customers who need them either very quickly, or for a short or indeterminate length of time. Examples would be the supply of power to an industrial site which needs to service its permanent power supply, supplying a whole city in times of power shortage, or providing a major sporting event with power and cooling systems. We serve our customers either through our 148 service centres, which we call the Local Business, or globally through our International Power Projects business.

In the Local business, which accounts for about half of our revenues, we hire our equipment to customers, who then operate it for themselves, although we retain responsibility for servicing and maintaining it. In the International Power Projects business, which also accounts for about half of our revenues, we operate as a power producer. We install and operate power plants and we charge our customers both for providing the generating capacity, and for the electricity we produce. We design and manufacture equipment specifically for these requirements in our factory in Dumbarton, Scotland.

Recent customers include the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and the power utilities in over 50 countries including the UK, France, Angola, Kenya, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Venezuela, Chile, Brazil and the USA.

In 2010 we fulfilled almost 40,000 customers' assignments and when researched, 68 per cent of them gave us a recommendation of 9 or 10 out of 10.
