King and Co To Help Create Felsted School 450th Anniversary Project

Released on: February 25, 2013, 6:00 am
Author: King & Co The Tree Nursery Limited
Industry: Non Profit
February 25, 2013, 6:00 am -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Essex’s leading tree nursery has announced its involvement in an exciting school project, which has been launched recently to mark a huge milestone for one of the region’s most historic independent schools.

Paul King, director of Rayne-based firm King and Co, will be helping Felsted School celebrate its 450th anniversary next year by contributing to a monumental on-site living sculpture. As a highly regarded tree specialist, Mr King is something of a celebrity within the local horticultural community, having been awarded Gold at Chelsea 2012 for his design of a Formula 1-themed garden at the world-renowned Flower Show. He also appeared on The One Show and filmed with Alan Titchmarsh and Christine Walkden in 2012.

Work has already begun on the cutting edge piece, which is intended to be a key visual element of the school’s festivities and as such will feature forty five Himalayan Birch trees. Each of the trees has been kindly donated by King and Co and is intended to represent a decade of the school’s rich history. All have now been planted to ensure they are established in time for the upcoming celebrations.

The designer behind the ambitious sculpture, Felsted School’s very own Arts co-ordinator David Smith, has made it clear to the local press that he wants this stunning piece of art to “embody the ethos and philosophy of Felsted” by acting as a“curtain of colour and movement” throughout all seasons. He hopes that the end sculpture will symbolise many features of the school and will enthral both staff and students for many generations to come.

Both the science and art departments at the school will be held responsible for the sculpture’s development. Biology teacher Mandy Bonnett and a group of Felsted’s International Baccalaureate student scientists will be working diligently throughout the next few months to ensure the project is on target for completion in early 2014.

Aside from this mammoth development, Paul will also be helping Felsted pupils design a garden to be shown at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show, which will take place from 21 -25th May.

King and Co is the leading supplier of large semi-mature trees, shrubs and evergreens in Essex.
