Horrible Histories and The Gruffalo in Hyde Park are highlights of family friendly events

June 03, 2013, 10:57 am -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The Imperial War Museum re-opens on 29th July 2013 with a new show for families, ‘Horrible Histories: Spies', based on Terry Deary's bestselling books which have been made into a popular CBBC series. The museum's re-opening is just one of the many family events taking place in London this summer and now is a good time to book tickets and reserve a family friendly London hotel to keep the kids entertained in the holidays.

Author Terry Dreary will also be taking part in a book signing at the Imperial War Museum on Thursday 1st August 2013 and exploring his gloriously gory books.

Horrible Histories the live show also returns to West End with a new show, the world premiere of ‘Barmy Britain – Part Two' performed by The Birmingham Stage Company, from 26th September 2013 to 5th January 2014 at London's Garrick Theatre. There is also a final chance to see ‘Barmy Britain – Part One' from 7th August.

Horrible Histories and The Gruffalo stage shows are part of the British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park on Sunday 7th July where .JLS and The Saturdays headline the family friendly festival.

Now going into its fourth year, LolliBop – “the big bash for little people” – moves to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in 2013. Running from 16th to 18th August, the UK's biggest festival for kids under ten features some well-known children's television characters including . and Dom, Cloudbabies, Peppa Pig and Shaun the Sheep. The festival is divided into different zones including the brand new Itsy Bitsy Strictly dance zone and seaside inspired zone, complete with beach huts and ice-cream sellers.

The Southbank Centre's 2013 summer family season highlights include the world premiere of ZooNation's Groove On Down The Road (10th August to 1st September), the UK premiere of Timber! (10th to 31st July) by Cirque Alfonse and the return of Southbank Centre's popular summer beach.

Other events at the Southbank Centre include the return of The Queen's Knickers (6th to 20th August) after a sell-out run in February, The Man Who Planted Trees (22nd August to 1st September) which also returns after a popular run in 2011, and Southbank Centre's Festival Village is transformed into Beanotown (1st June to 8th September) to celebrate the 75th birthday of The Beano.

Erth's Dinosaur Zoo brings a cast of large-scale Australian dinosaur puppets to Regent's Park Open Air Theatre for a month-long stay this summer from 9th August to 8th September 2013. Dinosaurs have been developed in consultation with palaeontologists, so they're as close to the real thing as you can get. Children can get up close to the dinosaurs when they meet the ‘cast' on the picnic lawn after the show.

Kids Week returns in August offering free theatre tickets to West End shows for children aged 16 and under when accompanied by an . paying full price. In addition, parents can purchase up to two extra children's tickets at half price for shows like Billy Elliot, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time and Top Hat both of which recently won gongs at the 2013 Olivier Awards. Tickets for Kids Week 2013 go on sale on Tuesday 18th June 2013.
