More than 100 free festival events form part of this year's City of London Festival, reports LondonTown.com

June 17, 2013, 11:20 am -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Founded in 1962, the City of London Festival is a summer programme of music, visual arts, film, walks and talks. Taking place across several venues - including St Paul's Cathedral and Mansion House - and many outdoor spaces, the festival boasts an array of London events and activities.

Last year the festival celebrated its Golden Jubilee - 50 years of animating the city with world-class arts - with more than 100 free festival events and this year's programme is set to be just as busy. The 2013 festival follows three main themes: city walls, connecting the City of London with Derry-Londonderry and other historic walled cities; trees, continuing the Festival's artistic responses to the environment; and conflict and resolution.

The festival also commemorates a number of significant anniversaries, notably the 400-year relationship between the City of London and Derry-Londonderry, celebrated with new choral and orchestral work At Sixes and Sevens ; the 300 th anniversary of the Treaty of Utrecht, marked by an historic concert at St Paul's Cathedral; and the 100 th anniversary of Benjamin Britten, whose War Requiem will be performed by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

A further highlight will be the mobile orchard, which takes both real and manufactured trees on a journey through various City locations. Passersby will have the opportunity to be educated about the City's trees and natural history. Continuing the trees theme, there will also The Blue Trees outside of St Paul's, an installation by Australian artist Konstanin Dimopoulos.
