Van drivers are romantic, helpful people who could benefit from telematics, says TrackCompare.

Colchester, Essex, United Kingdom, June 27, 2013 -- Van drivers should be given all the help telematics can provide, says TrackCompare, after a survey revealed they spend three hours 20 minutes behind the wheel every day.

“That’s an awful lot of time,” said Kjell Anderton, a director of the company. “They’d benefit hugely from telematics’ automatic route planning and optimisation, which would give them lots more precious family time and time to pursue their favourite sports and pastimes.”

The study of 819 van drivers, commissioned by Mercedes Benz, showed the average driver – top name, John - is most likely to be married with two children, earns £25,000, supports Manchester United, and drives 15,652 miles a year.

Half stop to help after a breakdown

It also emerged that half the drivers had stopped to help someone after an accident or breakdown and 53% described themselves as a courteous driver.

Other details:
Favourite meals: roast dinner with all the trimmings, full English breakfast, curry. (Also noted: £19.88 spent on fast food every week).

Preferred hot drink: coffee.

Best chocolate bar: Dairy Milk.

Pub visits: three a month.

Entertainment: cinema, watching live sport, socialising with friends.

Most popular sports: football, followed by rugby, golf, Formula 1 and tennis.

Driving skills: six in ten consider themselves a good and safe driver.

Career: A total of 22% said they love their career and could not imagine doing anything else; a further 37% said they ‘like it.’
The study also showed 63% of the drivers – married on average for eight-and-a-half years – considered themselves to be a romantic partner, with 44% stating they had taken their loved one away on a weekend break. A further 38% said they had provided a candlelit dinner for their partner.

“This survey shows the country’s van drivers in a whole new romanitc light,” said Kjell Anderton. “They should be cherished.”
And finally – the top ten van-driver names are …
1 John, 2 Dave, 3 Steve, 4 James/Jamie, 5 Mark, 6 Paul, 7 Andrew/Andy, 8 Mike, 9 Tom, 10 Chris.
