Special workshops programmed throughout August on the Victorian tea clipper allow families the chance to design their banners.

July 02, 2013, 2:44 pm -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Since reopening in April 2012, the Cutty Sark has been one of the main attractions driving visitors to Greenwich. The Cutty Sark is the world's last surviving tea clipper – a fast boat especially designed to transport tea from China to London in the 1860s and 1870s. The Cutty Sark now also hosts numerous special events, including a Family Fun Weekend, which has been organised for 3 rd and 4 th August. The Cutty Sark can be found in Greenwich, close to the National Maritime Museum, Royal Observatory, Greenwich Park and not far from the Excel centre in Docklands. Visitors to London searching for the cheapest hotels near the Excel should visit LondonTown.com, which lists hundreds of the best hotels in London.

The Cutty Sark was refurbished with money from the Heritage Lottery Fund after a dramatic fire in 2006. It reopened in 2013 in a new purpose-built exhibition space with café and shop that sees the boat suspended in mid-air. This extraordinary feet of engineering allows visitors to go aboard the deck of the ship and explore the cargo hold and cabins, but also walk beneath the craft to see the remarkable 963-tonne national treasure from beneath.

The Family Fun Weekend is perfect for the summer holiday. There will be a host of special events and workshops, including the chance for children to learn how to write a coded message using signal flags and also to design their very own flag. Attendance at the workshops is free with your entry admission. Other special events at the Cutty Sark in August include Whose Victory?, which will encourage visitors to think about the history of leaving messages in bottles, and regular storytelling events such as John Simmons: a sailor's Trafalgar story, which relates the life of John Simmons, a black sailor in Nelson's fleet. For information on this and other summer events in Greenwich and Docklands, see LondonTown.com, which is kept-up-to-date by a team of experts with all the latest tourist activities in London.
