July 17, 2013, 11:09 am -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The Victoria & Albert Museum in South Kensington has announced a small exhibition that will run from October through to April 2014 celebrating British Drawings: 1600 To The Present Day. The V&A is best known for its blockbuster exhibitions – such as the current record-breaking David Bowie Is…, but the museum also holds regular fascinating small exhibitions to showcase some of the many treats from its vast collection of international art, sculpture and textile. The museum is located in central London close to all major stations, including Waterloo. Visitors to London looking for hotels near Waterloo should visit LondonTown.com, London's best website for tracking down the best London hotels.

British Drawings: 1600 To The Present Day will celebrate the way British artists have used drawing in a wide range of ways over the centuries, including as ways to think on paper, to build up storehouses of ideas, as well as to make finished exhibition pieces. Drawings may not be as dramatic as paintings, but they tell us a great deal about the methodology and thought-process of an artists and are also often very beautiful in their own right, boasting a monochrome clarity that draws the eye. This exhibition will look at some of the best works in the V&A's considerable collection, including works by Anthony Van Dyck, Thomas Gainsborough, John Constable, William Blake, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Stanley Spencer, Lucien Freud and David Hockney and the display will also trace the central role played by drawing in portraiture and landscape, and in movements from Romanticism to Minimalism. Innovative contemporary works will demonstrate drawing's continuing importance for artists.

The exhibition also provides an opportunity to explore South Kensington, which is well served by numerous bars and restaurants and several other world-class tourist attractions such as Brompton Oratory, Royal Albert Hall, Hyde Park, the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum.
