The three Royal Museums of Greenwich have a thrilling programme lined up for 2014.
November 14, 2013, 1:05 pm -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The Royal Museums of Greenwich are looking forward to a year of anniversaries in 2014, with a trio of landmark events being commemorated by exhibitions at the Royal Observatory, Queens House and National Maritime Museum in Greenwich Park. The three museums are located within a short distance of numerous cheap London hotels and any visitors to London searching for the best available room rates for cheap hotels in London should visit, where the information is updated on a regular basis.

Three hundred years after the Longitude Act of July 1714 the National Maritime Museum stages Ships, Clocks & Stars: The Quest for Longitude (11th July 4th January 2015), an exhibition exploring the quest to solve one of the most complicated problems of its time. Valuable rewards were on offer for whoever could crack the puzzle and Ships, Clocks & Stars presents the ingenious instruments designed to scoop the prize and transform navigation. The Royal Observatory examines longitude with Longitude Punk'd ( April 2014 February 2015 ) which celebrates the inventors, scientists and explorers of the eighteenth century through eight British steampunk artists who will create works inspired by the technical inventions that were presented to the Board of Longitude.

The centenary of the First World War will be marked across the Queen's House and the National Maritime Museum. War Artists at Sea at the Queen's House runs from February 2014 to February 15 and features the best of Greenwich's collection of First and Second World War art, including portraits, battle scenes, and depictions of everyday life during conflict. At the National Maritime Museum, a new gallery called Forgotten Fighters: the First World War at Sea will open in August 2014. This will explore the naval dimensions of the conflict, by looking at the personal stories of those who participated through weaponry, photographs, medals and models. Finally, Rozanne Hawksley: War and Memory at the Queen's House from May 2014 November 2014 will consider the impact of conflict on combatants, family and friends through textiles.
