Greenwich museum celebrates Georgian navigational innovation with an outrageous exhibition of retro-future artworks and creation.
LONDON, March 20, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- One of the world's most outrageous artist fashions is set to take over one of London's most prestigious venues this Easter, when steampunk coms to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. Longitude Pun'd opens on 10 th April with work from nine British Steampunk artists to create works inspired by the technical inventions that were presented to the Board of Longitude between 1714 and 1828 in a bid to solve when of the greatest problems of Georgian navigation. The Royal Observatory, atop a hill in the middle of Greenwich Park, is one of several world-class museums in Greenwich, a beautifully historic town on the river containing great sights, restaurants, bars and London hotels. To get the most up-to-date information on London hotels and room rates, see the LondonTown.com website.

Longitude Punk'd features specially created pieces by Steampunk luminaries Robert Rankin, Lady Raygun, Herr Döktor, Doctor Geof, Emilly Ladybird, Major Thaddeus Tinker, Lady Elsie, The Alchemist and Citizen Griffdawg, including items like ‘The Globe of Dislocation', all that remains from the crash of a time-travelling airship, devised to navigate between alternate universes. Steampunk is the artistic style that celebrates Victorian notions of science-fiction, made famous by graphic novelist Alan Moore in his League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen series. It's wonderfully imaginative vision of a retro-future will bring a breathtaking touch of style to the Royal Observatory.

On display will be opulent and ornate apparel inspired by the night sky including gowns and headdresses, outlandish contraptions purporting to solve the Longitude problem and fanciful submissions and whimsical illustrations presented to the Board of Longitude. To coincide with Longitude Punk'd, the Royal Observatory Greenwich will be hosting a dedicated events programme, including sci-fi screenings in the Peter Harrison Planetarium and an extravagant Steampunk ball. For more information on this and other events in the Greenwich area, see LondonTown.com.
