Bus and other vintage vehicles go on display at London Transport Museum Acton dept
LONDON, September 15, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The London Transport Museum's purpose built Acton depot, which contains many of the museum's larger items which are considered too big to be stored in the museum's Covent Garden home, will be holding an Open Weekend in September allowing visitors to explore a weekend of activities that look at the role of London transport in the First World War. The depot rarely opens to visitors, so this is an unusual opportunity to explore the collection. Visitors to London can find the London Transport Museum's regular home in Covent Garden, where it is located close to a range of restaurants, bars and hotels. For those seeking to book a London hotel, visit, the best website for tourist information in the capital.

The Open Weekend will feature an appearance of the museum's 1914 B-type bus, which was used to help the war effort. At the outbreak of war, the bus was stripped of its London paintwork and decorated with khaki livery and boarded up windows. It was used to transport troops to the Front Line, and this original 1914 bus will soon head across the English Channel for a commemorative tour of First World War battlefield in northern France and Belgium. The team taking the bus on that tour will be around to answer any questions. Also on display will be four vintage motorcycles including a Triumph Model H used in the First World War to provide effective communications with the front line troops.

A talk about the use of London buses in the war will be held by Dr Graham Winton, while the curatorial team will explain how the bus was restored and films of London in wartime will be screened. Finally, visitors will be able to ride on the Acton Miniature Railway and heritage bus tours of the local area. For children, there will be storytelling, craft stalls, live music performances and a bouncy bus. For more information on the Acton Open Weekend see
