Press Release Author = Jessica Joy Reveles
Industry = Entertainment
Press Release Summary = Los Angeles, CA—May 16, 2007— Jessica Joy Reveles explores
traditional and emerging notions of female sexuality with the publication of The Truth About Queens, in conjunction with Poet Joi Publications (www.thepoetjoi.com) and Lulu (www.lulu.com), the world’s fastest-growing provider of print-on-demand books. Using a unique combination of experimental line breaks, local images, and accessible language, Reveles uncovers memory while developing immediate and tangible images that connect the reader to the current time and act of remembering.
Press Release Body = The Truth About Queens challenges conventional form with poems that depart from verse and move toward prosaic arrangement. Reveles employs devices such as lists, vignettes, and lyrics to convey stories about girlhood and womanhood threaded together by memories, both real and imagined.
Reveles wrote The Truth About Queens to give voice to memory from a woman’s perspective. She came to Lulu because she wanted to be in control of the publishing process, and found that Lulu also afforded the opportunity for her to publish her work under Poet Joi Publications, her newly formed publishing organization. The Truth About Queens is available for purchase at www.lulu.com, in a marketplace filled with other unique and wonderful surprises.
“Everything is deliberate in my writing, from the specific language employed in a given poem, to line breaks, syntax, punctuation or lack thereof, to overall presentation,” said Reveles. “Each of these components works toward constructing new memory, new experience through the reader’s engagement with a poem.”
Jessica Joy Reveles studied Creative Writing at the University of Southern California, and has lectured and presented her work in a variety of forums at USC and Brown University. The Truth About Queens is her first published volume of poetry. Reveles is involved in the editing and publication process of her next book to be released in the winter of 2008 and made available on Lulu. Reveles also works full time with children to build reading, writing, and math skills; writes from home; and conducts local readings and book discussion groups.
Founded in 2002, Lulu is the world’s fastest-growing print-on-demand marketplace for digital do-it-yourselfers. Please see www.lulu.com for more information.
